A daughter’s lament

As a daughter of God, I stand and pray,
In a land where chains still bind today.
Independence Day, they say we are free,
But what is this freedom if not for me?

The tricolour flies high, the anthem resounds,
Yet beneath it all, my spirit is bound.
For how can I rejoice in liberty’s name,
When my sisters and I still suffer the same?

They fought for our land, for the right to be,
Yet my heart questions, is this truly free?
Oppression lingers, in shadows it hides,
In the hearts of those who uphold false pride.

Oh, daughter of India, with pain in your chest,
You carry the weight of a world unimpressed.
But as a daughter of God, your spirit still soars,
For true freedom is found in the love that endures.

Do we have the right to celebrate this day,
When so many voices are still kept at bay?
Or do we rise, with courage and might,
To fight for the freedom that is our birth right?

For freedom is not just a word to declare,
It’s the breath of the oppressed, a justice so rare.
It’s the breaking of chains, the lifting of heads,
The hope that lives on, even when all else has fled.

So I stand with my sisters, with strength in my soul,
As a daughter of God, I claim my true role.
To fight for the freedom that God has designed,
For every daughter of India, in body and mind.

And as we march forward, let the world see,
That true independence is when all are free.
For in the heart of the oppressed, a fire ignites,
A daughter of India, reclaiming her rights.
